CONSERVATION OF TAIWAN ISLAND（125）

The Taiwan Island is located to southeast of the mainland and composed of the Taiwan lsland itself，the Penghu Island and 88 neighboring islands with a total area of 35，989.76 sq km. Owing to its favorable geographical position，it is rich in natural resources. In order to give effective protection to them，17 nature reserves and 4 national parks have already been established.

1.Danshui nature reserve：The reserve has a total area Iishment of the reserve is to give good natural protection to Kouk liueaonak.

2.Daguanshan nature reserve：The reserve has a total area of 6340 ha and the main purpose of its establishment is to give natural protection to Chamaecyparis formosensis community and Fagus hayatae forest.

3.Qing shuishan nature reserve：The reserve has a total area of 1200 ha and the main purpose of its establishment is to give natural protection to Juniperus chine and more than 20 spiecies of rare and precious plants.

4.Nanhu Dashan nature reserve：The reserve has a total area of 6000 sq km and the main purpese of its establishment is to give protection to Sabina squamala var.morrisonicola，Epilobium nankotaizanensis and other alpine plants.

5.Nanrenshan tropical rainforest nature reserve：The main purpose if its establishment is to give natural protection to tropical rainforest and tropical monsoon forest，and more an 20 precious plants in them.

6.Xiang jiaowan tropical coastal forest nature reserve：The main purpose of its establishment is to give natural protection to tropical coastal forest mainly composed of Heritiera littoralis，Baringtomia asiatiea and Garbera manghas.

7.Cucas taiwaniana nature reserve：The reserve is located in Luyesi，eastern Taiwan.

8.Lanyu nature reserve：The main purpose of its establishment is to give natural protection to the rare and precious biome in the area.

9.Yuanyanghu nature reserve：The reserve has a total area of 374 ha and the main purpose of its establishment is to give natural protection to Air galericulata and Limnetic biome.

10.Shuangguihu nature reserve：It is the largest reserve in Taiwan. The main purpese of its establishment is to give natural protection to Limnetic biome and virgin forest of Tarunnia cryptomeriodes.

11.Nenggaoshan nature reserve：The reserve has a total area of 7434 ha and the main purpose of its establishment is to give natural protection to virgin forest，particularly to Chamaecyparis formosensis，Schima superba etc.

12.Dulishan wild animal protective area：The main purpose of its establishment is to give natural protection to Rhesus macaque.

13.Liufucun wild animal pratective area：It has an area of 75 ha and the main purpese of its establishment is to give protection to those wild animals grazing in the area.

14.Nanyangxi nature reserve：The main purpose of its establishment is to give protection to more than 200 species of bird in the reserve.

15.Guandugong nature reserve：The main purpose of its establishment is to give natural protection to Egretta garzetta and other birds.

16.Qingshuiyan nature reserve：The main purpose of its establishrnent is to give natural protection to the wild birds living in the area.

17.Qingshuixi nature reserve：The main purpose of its establishment is to give natural protection to the fishes and shrimps.

18.Yangmingshan National Park：The park has an area of 11，500 ha with beautiful scenery. It is a famous tourist spot.

19.Yushan National Park：The park has an area of 105，500 ha. It is a tourist spot famous for its having well preserved alpine ecosystem.

20.Kending National Park：The park has an area of 17，700 ha.

21.Tailuge National Park：The park has an area of 92，000 ha and is famous for its beautiful scenery.
